Challenges:

  • Users struggle to manage pantry inventory, leading to wasted food and overspending.

  • Finding recipes based on available food ingredients is often time-consuming.

  • Busy lifestyles require a simple and efficient way to plan meals and grocery trips.

Problem Statement:

PantryPal addresses the challenges of food waste, disorganized meal planning, and costly grocery habits by offering a smart, intuitive solution for managing kitchen inventory and discovering recipes based on what users already have at home.

Goals:

  • Create a visually appealing and intuitive mobile app.

  • Provide a seamless way to track pantry inventory and expiration dates.

  • Enable users to search for recipes based on available ingredients.

  • Offer meal planning and grocery list generation for time efficiency.

Research:

To understand the needs, pain points, and preferences of potential users, I conducted:

  1. User Surveys: Gathered insights from 20 users to understand common struggles with food waste, pantry tracking, and meal prep.

  2. In-depth Interviews: Conducted 2 one-on-one interviews with busy individuals, who cook at home to explore how they manage their pantry and plan meals.

  3. Competitor Analysis: Evaluated existing meal planning and inventory tracking apps to identify gaps and opportunities for differentiation.

Key Findings:

  • Users feel guilty about wasting food and want tools to minimize waste.

  • Apps with cluttered interfaces are quickly abandoned. Users need clear, easy-to-use features.

  • Users value the ability to filter recipes based on dietary restrictions and preferences.

  • Many users expressed interest in features like automated grocery list creation or integration with delivery services.
